High performing teams need a strong union between work processes and technology.
Does your technology assist/aid you in delighting customers, performing your quickly, easily, and with high quality? Or, do you spend more time "feeding the system" and working to make the system run for you?
55% to 75% of all ERP projects fail to meet their objectives (estimate from Analyst firm Gartner).
Nike's ERP failure: Due to result of the improper handling of its ERP implementation, Nike lost sales of $100M dollars and saw an additional decrease of 20% of its share price.
Hershey’s suffered an ERP failure: the company was incapable of processing $100 million worth of Kiss and Jolly Rancher orders, even though it had most of the inventory in stock.
Creating the union:
1. Understand benefits case (goal and measureable benefits) of the union and the improved work process and outcomes. More on goals and measures.
2. Prepare for the change and impact on stakeholders and team members. More on managing change and the topic of this week's webinar.
3. Understand your work processes 1st, with detailed sub-process mapping. This will help the team and technlogy partners understand the process steps that utilize and do not utilize technology. Process mapping also helps define the gaps that the technology can close. (This is technology's value-add: better enabling the work processes). More on sub-process mapping.
4. Collect process data (time, quality, & volume) to guide decisions and mistake proofing improvements. Mistake proofing is designing processes and technology so that a mistake CANNOT occur. More on mistake proofing. This can result in a union that produces outputs that are 1st time correct and complete.
5. Effectively implement, together. Documented standard work instructions (more on std. work), training, and with coaching to continually improve helps to put the improved process and technology into the capable hands of the process team.
The union of work processes and technology is extremely powerful! Even more powerful when using these focusing, engaging, and data-driven steps. We wish you great success for you, your customers, team members, and budget!
