"Investing in our team members' knowledge, skills, and engagement is criticial to our organization's on-going success". A 2020-2022 learning from many organizations

Congratulations, if you are fortunate to find and secure funding to support developing your team members' skills. If you are still seeking resources to focus on workforce develop, consider investigating internal funding sources: training budgets, professional development budgets, accreditation budgets, reallocation of travel budgets, improvement project funds, and cross-department consolidation of unused budgets. Also, seek out external funding sources: community partners, WednetPA, non-profit organizations or philanthropist aligned with your organization, and state and federal organizations (including CDC, HRSA, Dept of Ag).  Funding is available; we can help a bit with navigation.

Securing people development funds is the beginning. Now the fun can begin; increase your impact by effectively using funds to develop practical skills that stick and are used.

1. When establishing plans to make best use of people development funds, consider and select what is most important to improve each individual's capability. Understand your team's needs and individual's gaps.

2. Identify training and development opportunties to meet the needs and close gaps.

3. Train well through coaching of application.

In addition to training, knowledge and skills are developed by participating in experience building and step-out assignments.

If training is your best use of funds...

Please, please, please remember the adult learning principles from TWI (Training within Industries) to improve the impact on knowledge and skill development. We apply these principals in a 4 step approach:

  • TELL: Explain the key knowledge points and why they are important
  • SHOW: Show how it is done; provide examples
  • DO: Have the learner perform the process and apply the learning
  • RECYCLE: Observe the learner, provide feedback and help

Data shows that training is not complete when leaving the classroom. Pairing with coaching and technical assistance increases: learning 💠 expectations 💠accountability 💠a bigger and earlier impact 💠 and of course better use of your funding.
